Itinerary & Accommodations
Days 1, 2 & 3 Chobe National Park

Welcome to wildlife paradise. Upon arrival to the Kasane airport, you will be met and transferred to the Chobe Elephant Camp. Let the safari begin! The peacock-blue Chobe River draws animals from throughout the region. Elephants in particular come to drink, bathe, and play at the riverbanks, especially during the dry season when water is scarce away from the river. Herds of massive Cape buffalo also congregate at the Chobe. And where there are elephants and buffalo, there are attendant predators—be on the lookout for hyenas, lions, and jackals.

Your hosts from the camp ensure your every need is attended to, while your camp guides expertly navigate the bush ensuring your days are full of exploration and every bend brings a new encounter. Daily game drives in open safari vehicles will take you into the heart of the action, where you can see throngs of animals. A river cruise along the banks of the Chobe will bring you up close to pods of hippos and bathing elephants. An optional nature walk in the surrounding forest reserve provides opportunity to stretch your legs. If you have a passion for local culture, you can choose to take an excursion to a nearby Sibuya village and school where you will learn about traditional tribal life. Evenings always end with a sundowner before dinner—a lovely repose at the end of a thrilling day.

Included: Game drives, nature walk, river cruise, land transfers / daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages

Days 4 & 5 Okavango Delta

Following a morning activity and breakfast, you’ll bid your hosts farewell and fly by light aircraft from Kasane Airport to Machaba Camp. Here you will experience the stunning beauty of the world’s largest intact inland delta—the Okavango. One of the most renowned wilderness destinations in the world, Okavango Delta affords an unending spectacle of wild Africa. It is a land where the heart-stopping excitement of big-game viewing meets the supreme tranquility of an untouched delta. Its evocative scenes of natural beauty are simply extraordinary. Situated deep within its desert basin, this “jewel of the Kalahari” is fed by the Okavango River, developed by millennia of sand deposits carried from Angola. With the guidance of your expert camp guides and hosts, game viewing, walking safaris, and a night drive will give you a glimpse of the staggering diversity of wildlife: 122 species of mammals, 71 of fish, 444 of birds, 64 of reptiles, and 1,300 unique species of flowering plants.

The Okavango wetland encompasses Moremi Game Reserve and surrounding regions divided into areas known as Private Concessions. These concessions are wildlife-management areas, carefully administrated to balance the growing community’s development and conservation, while empowering citizens through sustainable tourism. Many of the exclusive lodges in Botswana are located within these concessions in the delta, providing an unparalleled wildlife experience—exclusive and remote, avoiding mass tourism and exploitation.

At this first stop in the Okavango, you will border the Moremi Game Reserve—the most popular destination within the delta—more specifically, the Khwai area, a village near the North Gate of the park. This area offers the same wildlife experience as the reserve itself, but has distinct advantages being outside the reserve—namely the freedom to do walking safaris and night drives not permitted inside the Moremi.

Included: Game drives, walking safari, internal flight / daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages

Approximate Travel Time: 45-minute flight (daily flight schedules vary)

Days 6, 7 & 8 Okavango Delta

After breakfast, a light aircraft will bring you to Kanana Camp in the southwestern part of the delta. Prepare to experience a whole new side of the delta. This lush area is filled with tranquil, picturesque waterways, curving through open lagoons and papyrus and tree-covered islands. The landscape provides a haven for birds year-round, not just during the rainy season with regular sightings of Pel’s fishing owl. Thousands of migratory waterbirds—including marabou, yellow-bill and open-bill storks—come to nest at a private heronry from July onwards. The varied terrain will open up new activities for you to pursue: day and night game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles, game-viewing mokoro (canoe) excursions, guided walks, fishing, motorboating, and sunset cruises. As you safari, you might follow eagles and vultures, or track wild dogs and leopards. A wide variety of game frequent the islands around Kanana Camp including impala, lechwe, leopard, lion, and elephant, and you may be lucky enough to see sitatunga—a marsh-dwelling antelope—while boating.

Included: Game drives, walking safari, boat cruises, internal flight / daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages

Approximate Travel Time: 45-minute flight (daily flight schedules vary)

Day 9 Maun

Guides

Our Guides

On this safari, rather than traveling with a dedicated CW Safaris guide throughout the trip, you will be in the care of the local lodge hosts who know each individual destination best. Each night you’ll stay in carefully chosen small camps and lodges whose hosts and resident guides offer a familial style of service, and enjoy sharing their in-depth knowledge of the local land, wildlife, culture, and ecology. In addition to the exceptional local guidance that these resident professionals provide during bush walks, game drives, and other safari activities, they’ll also share family-style meals with you, creating opportunities for meaningful interaction morning, noon, and night. Throughout your stay, you can expect your every need to be anticipated and looked after, and on travel days, your hosts will directly facilitate onward transportation to the next leg of your journey.

Moreri Ndana

Moreri Ndana is also known as “Chilli Boy”, as he is considered “red hot” in the guiding world! Moreri’s passion for guiding began at a very young age where he felt a calling after seeing his first zebra – he was enthralled by the unique patterns of the stripes. Moreri’s fondest bush memory is the time he witnessed a sitatunga (a small antelope), which was under threat by nearby predators, submerge under water with only its snout protruding waiting for the danger to pass, before it calmly walked out the river. Moreri has been guiding for over 10 years yet his passion for conservation, ecology, and animal behavior is just as enthusiastic as when he initially discovered his calling.

Othswanetse Albert Sashandi

Born and raised in the Okavango Delta, Othswanetse Albert Sashandi (known as Albert) was destined to be a safari guide with most of his early learning coming from listening to his elders while gathered around the fire in the evenings and through his own trial and error in the daytime. Passionate about ecology and fascinated with animal behavior, he notes his most memorable guiding experience as the time he witnessed a pride of lions hunting a zebra when suddenly a group of hyenas arrived and chased the pride up a tree!

Botshabelo Mosenyegi

Botshabelo Mosenyegi (“BT” for short) possesses an appreciation for nature which is contagious. While he loves big game (even after being mocked charged by lions!), his favorite animal is the tiny (and rarely seen) steenbok. As much as BT enjoys sharing his African knowledge, a highlight of guiding for him is interacting with guests of different nationalities and hearing about their history and culture. BT is known for his relaxed but professional nature that results in long-lasting bonds with guests.

Kashanga Gabanne

Kashanga Gabanne, amicably known as “Leopard” (due to his uncanny knack for spotting leopards) followed in his safari guide father’s footsteps and has been leading groups around Botswana for almost 30 years. As a boy, Leopard’s mother was worried when he would go out exploring, nonetheless, he began working after school with the national parks and game reserves and it was that experience which cemented his love for the bush and his dream of becoming a professional guide. Leopard’s knowledge, expertise, and enthusiasm always leave guests with lasting memories.
